A festival weekend can start at 30 degrees and end in a field of mud. And nights in the tent are often much colder than you’d expect. The trick is to dress in layers and put your feet first.
Feet first
You’ll walk miles over a festival weekend. Bring shoes that are broken in – never new ones. If it turns muddy, wellies are worth their weight in gold, but they’re heavy to walk long distances in all day. Many people bring both: wellies in the tent, boots or trainers on dry days.
Layer up
- A T-shirt or vest for the day.
- A thin fleece or hoodie for the evening – it gets cold quickly once the sun goes down.
- A rain poncho or light rain jacket you can tie around your waist.
Nights in the tent
Don’t sleep in the clothes you’ve worn all day – they’re damp with sweat and will make you cold. Keep a set of dry sleepwear, a beanie and wool socks. A sleeping mat matters more than a thick sleeping bag, because the cold comes from below.
When it gets really hot
- Drink water between every beer. Seriously.
- A cap or hat and sunscreen – even when it’s cloudy.
- Check where the water stations are when you arrive on site.
